PYO Strawberries in Gloucester
Over 35 years, we’ve cracked the art of growing big, juicy PYO strawberries in the British climate. We’re dedicated to diligently cultivating these crops – you’re going to love them too (especially with a bit of cream!).

When is our PYO fruit in season?
Our tasty strawberries are usually the first fruit to come into season, right from early June all the way through until the end of August.

PYO blackberries
For the best PYO fruit, choose the plump, deeply coloured berries that come off the plant easily. Twist them gently to release them from the stem, and remember to wash your PYO fruit before enjoying the sweet, juicy goodness!

FAQs
It’s free to enter the field!. Take a peek at the calendar on our booking page to see which times are available – and be sure to book before you arrive.
We always say babes in arms go free at Over Farm and that’s certainly the case in the fruit patch.
We class babies as children that aren’t walking and have to be carried/pushed everywhere – so if your little one is a “babe in arms”, then please don’t worry about booking a slot for them!
Generally, yes.
We do use an automatic bird scarer to keep starlings and black birds off the fruit from time to time, so do bring headphones as a backup if they are used by the individual.
The fruit field is a little rough in places, many scooters will manage unless it’s rained recently. The field is on a slope, so wheelchairs are a bit more of a struggle, but again, doable with a strong assistant.
The fruit field is a little rough in places, but most buggies manage unless it’s rained recently. If you have large wheels, you’ll generally be fine, if it’s a city stroller, a carrier may be better.
We aim to close 30 minutes after the start of the last time slot.
Each of our time slots lasts 30 minutes, so if you were to buy a 4:30pm time slot, you should turn up latest of 4:30 and we would be asking you to be finished by 4:50 so we can close at 5pm.
If you book an earlier slot, you’ll have more time in the field!
Our closing times vary. Please see the general guide above, or follow the booking links to see what we have available.
We’ve got loads of different fruit patches and the quantity and quality varies depending on weather and the time of year.
Strawberries start and are at their best and most plentiful around mid June and blackberries shortly after.
We have different plantings to give a consistent supply right through to the end of the school holidays, but we can’t control everything, and some times we have to close due to lack of fruit.
The best way to keep in the know is to check our social channels or to sign up for our emails, which you can do here!
We’ll weigh your fruit on scales as you exit to work out the cost. In 2025, the cost will be £9.99/kg for strawberries, £16.99/kg for blackberries.
From time to time we run special offers, so do keep an eye out on socials for these and nab them while you can!
As a rough guide for strawberries, our small 1kg punnets are £9.99 and the 3kg buckets are £29.99. This might sound like a lot, but your average punnet from the supermarket will be teeny tiny at just 250-400 grams, plus, you haven’t had the joy of picking them in a field on the farm they’re grown on.
We think ours taste much better fresh off the field, and you’re supporting a local business!
Please do! Well behaved dogs are very welcome at the field for a small charge, but please keep them on a lead and pick up their poop if they feel the need to go!
We do our best to spread the season out for you – there’s nothing like making a day of it and getting out picking with the kids during the summer holidays!
Here’s the thing: the traditional strawberry season starts in mid-June (weather dependent) and the 2-3 weeks following is when they’re the most plentiful and tasty. Mmmm.
We do still spread the season though, by planting three smaller, later crops which means we still have strawberries for you to pick during the summer holidays. They’re a little less plentiful, but no less tasty!
Blackberries are a little easier, they crop late July / early August and keep going all by themselves until the first frost – how clever!
Timewise? Well that’s up to you! If you want a cooler experience, pop over in the morning. If you can brave the sun, swipe an afternoon slot! Just make sure you bring plenty of water and pack your sun cream too.
Glad you asked!
The fruit needs to be ripe, so red (or black for blackberries) all the way around.
Strawberries need to be rolled on their back which breaks their stem perfectly and prevents any bruising to them from your fingertips. Rees made a video to show this.
Blackberries are simply a case of pulling gently on them without squeezing too hard.
That’s tricky as it depends on you and the fruit supply!
If the fruit is plentiful and you’re on your own and on a mission, you should fill a bucket in 10 minutes if you follow the directions of staff and head to the red flag that points out the best picking area.
If you have several children, a push chair, a dog and you miss what the staff member said – or if you visit towards the end of the season when we’re a little short o fruit, you could be out in the field for an hour looking and possibly struggle to fill a small punnet.
Our staff don’t mind repeating themselves, so please do ask as many questions as you like, and if you want to see your punnet overflowing, make sure you visit during peak season!
That depends on several things: weather, ripeness, quality of picking and storage.
If you visit on a wet day, pick deep red fruit a little roughly or throw them in the punnet, then leave them in the car for two hours in the sun or on the side until the next day, you’re guaranteed a soggy strawberry soup that doesn’t look great and is barely any good for jam!
We close on wet days where possible to eliminate the weather issue, but even if it’s been wet when you visit, it doesn’t have to mean soggy strawberries so long as you take care when picking.
Always best to follow our picking instructions, pick gently, and get those beautiful berries in the fridge as soon as possible!
Yes! Our farm shop and cafe will be open and at weekends and during the summer holidays, our farm park – Countryside Adventure will be too.
