Over Farm is located on the A40 at Over, Gloucester, GL2 8DB, just one mile from Gloucester city centre, with free parking on site.

Everything We Know About The Roadworks So Far

National Highways is carrying out essential repair and maintenance work on Over Bridge, which carries the A40 over the River Severn. The scheme is expected to run from 29 June 2026 until March 2027.

National Highways has advised that the work is expected to cause significant delays in the area, especially at peak travel times, and drivers are encouraged to plan journeys in advance.

The slip road linking the A417 Over Causeway to the A40 westbound is closed 24/7 for the duration of the scheme. Drivers travelling from the A417 onto the A40 westbound will need to join via the roundabout.

During all phases, westbound drivers will not be able to turn right into Over Farm, Toby Carvery or Horseshoe Drive and will need to continue to Highnam Roundabout to turn around safely.

The A40 will remain open for most* of the works, with lane closures, contraflow arrangements and a 30mph speed limit used at different stages.

*National Highways expects up to six more overnight closures as below, with no more than two consecutive nights at any one time. During full overnight closures, National Highways says a signed diversion will be in place via the A417, A449 and A40. Please follow official diversion signs rather than sat nav instructions during closures.

How To Get To Countryside Adventure And Over Farm

Coming from Gloucester

Please note that the slip road from the A417 Over Causeway to the A40 westbound is closed 24/7 during the Over Bridge roadworks. Use the roundabout to join the A40 westbound instead.

Over Farm is just one mile from Gloucester city centre. However, during the road works, you will have to go to the Highnam roundabout and double back on yourself, then follow the same instructions as below.

Coming from Newent / Forest of Dean / Highnam

From the Highnam lights, merge into the contraflow, follow signs and enter the farm shop using the last turning before entering the contraflow.

Is Over Farm Still Open During The A40 Roadworks At Over Bridge?

Yes! We’re open and ready to welcome you.

The roadworks may make the traffic a little more wriggly than usual, but Over Farm, Over Farm Market, the café, Countryside Adventure and our seasonal events are all continuing as normal.

Everything at Countryside Adventure is still included in your entry fee, so once you arrive, you can relax, run wild, meet the animals, bounce, play, ride, explore and have a proper farm day out. A small delay getting here calls for an even bigger adventure! (That’s farm maths.)

National Highways has confirmed that access to homes and businesses will be maintained, although short diversions via nearby roundabouts will be required.

Will I be able to turn into Over Farm from the A40?

Is Over Barn wedding and events venue open?

Absolutely. If you’ve got an event booked at Over Barn, we’ll communicate directly with you about the roadworks. Please make sure you let your guests know to set out a little earlier than previously expected. The good news for couples looking for a gorgeous wedding venue is that the roadworks are expected to be wrapped up in spring 2027!

Will the roadworks affect seasonal events?

From PYO to Pumpkin Festival and everything else, our seasonal events are going ahead as planned (unless we say otherwise). For busy event days, we recommend allowing extra travel time and checking the live camera before setting off.

Is parking still available at Over Farm?

Yes. We still have free parking on site. Once you arrive, follow signs or our friendly team to the right parking area.

Are buses affected by the Over Bridge A40 roadworks?

National Highways says the A40 will remain open for most works, so bus services are expected to run as normal. Up to seven overnight closures are expected, but National Highways says these should not affect buses as no overnight routes operate.

Proposed temporary bus stops are:

•During the contraflow for the Eastbound closure, the bus stop will be temporarily relocated close to the entrance to the Toby Carvery (see top Eastbound image above).
•During the contraflow for the Westbound closure, the bus lane will be temporarily relocated further west, opposite the entrance to Over Farm (see bottom Westbound image above).

How can I get to you walking and cycling?

During the works, the pedestrian and cycle route under the bridge will be open, and of course, the route to Highnam and Maismore will still be open.

See the map below for the route under the bridge.
