A family affair at Over Farm

Between a big birthday celebration for my brother Tim (and the ensuing sore heads), two of our team coming down with a sickness bug and constant showers and wind getting in the way of setting up for Spookyard…

We’re not quite where I imagined we’d be on the last Tuesday in September.

Still, the last strawberries in the PYO fields have finally been picked (did you know we still get a few this late on?!) and prep for our big PYO Pumpkins starting this Saturday has continued too – we’ll definitely be ready in time!

More time than usual with my son

Kate’s sickness bug meant I spent less time in the fields than usual, and more time looking after our son Ralph. The juggling was tricky, but Ralph’s moments of interest in the strawberry picking and the pumpkin prep was just fantastic to see.

I didn’t manage to get a pic of him this time, but I’ve still got these precious ones of Ralph (and our Connie) from last year!

By the way, if you’re planning to be at our PYO Pumpkins event this year, please do tag us in your lovely snaps with us on Facebook so we can share them!

My cousin Ben’s sourced some super cute local handmade pumpkin costumes

Speaking of family, my cousin Ben has also been busy this week, sourcing gorgeous pumpkin themed babywear from a local seamstress.

When you join us for day time pumpkin PYO or Pumpkins After Dark, you’ll have some great dressing up options to buy for your little ones – ideal for getting those beautiful and unforgettable photos in the patch.

(Because, YES, dressing up in the patch is most definitely to be encouraged!!)

The pumpkin patch opens on Saturday!

Despite the wind and wet, my pumpkin team has done an amazing job pressing on to make sure everything’s perfect when we open for PYO this Saturday!

Right now the field itself is pretty dry underfoot so we should have some great conditions for picking this weekend, and you’ll notice some rather large pumpkins have appeared in the patch…

Big thanks to Rich and his team for the creativity on those mahoosive gourds (and no, he’s NOT a relative, although I see enough of him that it often feels that way!).

Hopefully see you for some pumpkin picking action soon.

Much love,

P.S. Spookyard returns at October half term. Just sayin’…
